Tree Removal Across Lancaster, OH

Lancaster is the seat of Fairfield County, southeast of Columbus on the Hocking River, where the flat farmland of central Ohio starts to break into hills. That shapes tree removal there: sloping yards, ravines down to creeks, and big old trees on the lots around downtown. We come down Route 33 from Reynoldsburg and plan the day around your job. For pruning, cabling and the rest of what we do in town, see tree service in Lancaster. The service areas page lists the other towns we cover.

Tree Removal Reviews From A.S.H. Customers

A tree removal is done on your property, close to your house, by people you have only just met. Trust is the whole job. What A.S.H. customers write about comes back to the same three things: the crew turned up when it said it would, did the work that was agreed, and left the yard clean. Those are the things to look for in any review before you book tree removal in Lancaster, ours included.

Eduardo was fantastic to work with. Quick to schedule and helpful by listening to what my goals and concerns were. I had a smaller project so he was able to squeeze me in the very next day after providing an estimate. Quality work that was reasonably priced.

The work crew knew what I wanted them to do. They showed up on time and started to work, checking with me to make sure that everything was done to my satisfaction. They did a great job with cleanup. Eduardo was a pleasant person and professional with his job.

I had reached out to get a quote after our Black Walnut Tree had some large branches break off in high winds. Ed made some recommendations and talked me through what branches he would remove. His team showed up on time and did a great job! Not only do our trees look great and healthy, but his team did a great job cleaning up the yard after.

How a Tree Removal Works on a Lancaster Hillside

A tree on flat ground can sometimes be dropped in one piece into an open lawn. A tree on a slope almost never can. It leans and loads differently, the ground below decides where equipment can go, and anything that falls keeps moving downhill. So on steep Lancaster lots we rig trees down with a climber: the top comes off first, then the limbs, then the trunk in short sections lowered on rope.

We plan the brush route before anything is cut, because carrying brush uphill to the chipper is the slowest part of the day, and we keep the truck off a lawn that would rut. Wet weather matters more here than on flat ground. A soaked slope is slippery and soft, and we will move a date rather than work unsafe ground. You will hear from us before the day, not on it. For how a sectioned takedown runs anywhere, see tree removal.

Lancaster Tree Lawn Trees Need a City Permit

Trees on your own lot are yours to decide about. Trees in the tree lawn are a different matter. In Lancaster, a resident who wants to remove or prune a tree in the city right-of-way or tree lawn must complete a Tree Removal and Pruning Permit and have it approved by the Municipal Arborist before the work starts. The work has to be done by an arborist permitted to work within city limits, and permits go to the Lancaster Tree Commission at 632 W. Fifth Avenue.

So if the tree you want gone stands between the sidewalk and the street, the permit comes first. If you are not sure which side of the line it is on, we will tell you at the estimate, before anything is priced.

Signs a Lancaster Tree Should Come Down

Plenty of trees that look worrying can be kept with good pruning. Some cannot. These are the signs that usually mean removal:

  • A dead ash. Emerald ash borer was first confirmed in Ohio in 2003, according to Ohio State University Extension, and a dead ash turns brittle fast, dropping limbs with little warning.
  • A lean that has changed. A tree that has always leaned is one thing. A new lean, with soil lifting on the far side, means the roots are letting go.
  • A crack through a main fork. Once a split runs down into the trunk, the two halves are working against each other.
  • Fungus or soft wood at the base. Mushrooms at the root flare often mean decay inside, where you cannot see how far it has gone.

When a tree can be saved, we say so. Trimming and pruning takes weight off a heavy limb, and cabling and bracing can hold a weak fork together for years.

Storm Damage and Emergency Tree Removal in Lancaster

Central Ohio gets severe thunderstorms and straight-line winds most summers. The June 29, 2012 derecho brought gusts of 70 to 80 mph across the area, according to the National Weather Service, and on August 11, 2026, the National Weather Service measured an 82 mph gust at John Glenn Columbus International Airport. Storms like those put trees on roofs, cars and driveways across the region.

When a tree is on your house, call rather than use the form. Phone is the fastest way to reach us, and we will tell you honestly when we can be there. Storm damage tree removal covers how we take apart a tree that has already failed, and emergency tree service covers the urgent calls.

What Tree Removal in Lancaster Costs

The price of a tree removal in Lancaster comes from the tree and the ground around it: the height and spread, what is underneath, whether it can be lowered into open lawn or has to come down piece by piece, how steep the yard is, and how much cleanup you want. A written price comes after a look, never before, and the estimate costs nothing. Stump grinding is a separate line, quoted at the same visit. For how pricing works and what moves it, see what tree removal costs.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a permit to remove a tree in Lancaster, Ohio?

Not for a tree on your own lot. For a tree in the tree lawn or city right-of-way, yes: the City of Lancaster requires a Tree Removal and Pruning Permit approved by the Municipal Arborist before the work.

Do you really come down to Lancaster from Reynoldsburg?

Yes. It is one of our longer drives, so we plan Lancaster visits ahead. You still pick the day and the window, and we keep it.

My yard is steep. Can you still take the tree down?

Usually, yes. On a slope we send a climber up and lower the tree in sections on rope, so nothing rolls and the truck stays off soft ground.

What happens to the wood and brush?

The brush goes through the chipper on site. Logs are cut to a length you can handle and left where you want them, or hauled away. You decide at the estimate.

Is stump grinding included in the tree removal?

It is a separate line, because some people want to keep the stump. We quote it at the same visit. See stump grinding.

How fast can you come after a storm?

Call 614-701-0806. Trees on houses, cars and driveways come first, and we will give you an honest time rather than a promise we cannot keep from across the county.
