Tree Removal Across Groveport, OH

Groveport is a small Franklin County city southeast of Columbus. It began in 1846, when two rival canal towns on the Ohio and Erie Canal, Wert's Grove and Rarey's Port, merged and took a piece of each name. An old town means old trees: pin oaks over driveways, silver maples wider than the yards they stand in, black walnuts dropping a crop on the lawn every fall. Groveport sits just down the road from our base in Reynoldsburg. For pruning and the rest of what we do there, see tree service in Groveport, and the service areas page lists the other towns.

Tree Removal Reviews From A.S.H. Customers

A tree removal is done on your property, close to your house, by people you have only just met. Trust is the whole job. What A.S.H. customers write about comes back to the same three things: the crew turned up when it said it would, did the work that was agreed, and left the yard clean. Those are the things to look for in any review before you book tree removal in Groveport, ours included.

Eduardo was fantastic to work with. Quick to schedule and helpful by listening to what my goals and concerns were. I had a smaller project so he was able to squeeze me in the very next day after providing an estimate. Quality work that was reasonably priced.

The work crew knew what I wanted them to do. They showed up on time and started to work, checking with me to make sure that everything was done to my satisfaction. They did a great job with cleanup. Eduardo was a pleasant person and professional with his job.

I had reached out to get a quote after our Black Walnut Tree had some large branches break off in high winds. Ed made some recommendations and talked me through what branches he would remove. His team showed up on time and did a great job! Not only do our trees look great and healthy, but his team did a great job cleaning up the yard after.

Know Your Groveport Tree Before You Remove It

Groveport has been settled a long time: the Groveport Log House, its oldest building, went up in 1815 and was moved to Heritage Park in 1974. Older streets mean older trees, and a lot of worried calls from older towns are about things the tree was always going to do. Pin oak is the clearest case. It holds onto its dead lower branches for years instead of shedding them, so a healthy pin oak can look half dead from the driveway. On central Ohio's alkaline soils, pin oaks also often go yellow in the crown. That is chlorosis, a soil problem, not a death sentence.

Neither of those means the tree has to come down. They mean the deadwood should be cleared over anywhere people walk or park, and the yellowing looked at by someone who knows what they are seeing. We will tell you which you have, free, and send you to trimming and pruning when that is the honest answer.

When a Silver Maple Has to Come Down

Silver maple is the opposite character. It grows fast, its wood is soft, and it sheds limbs in storms. A big one that has been dropping limbs for years is worth a proper look, because the difference between normal shedding and a failing fork is the difference between a pruning job and a removal.

When a fork is splitting into the trunk, or decay has hollowed the base, the tree comes down in sections: the crown first from the bucket or by a climber, each piece lowered on rope, then the trunk in rounds. If a fork is still sound and worth saving, cabling and bracing can hold it together for years. For how a sectioned takedown runs, see tree removal.

Black Walnuts, Honey Locust and Heavy Wood

Black walnut wood is dense and heavy, and a walnut limb over a parked car or a roof is a lot of weight to bring down in one piece. We cut it shorter than we would a maple and lower every section. Walnut also tends to hide metal: old fence wire, nails and staples the tree grew around decades ago. We look for it before cutting, because it is hard on saws and changes how the trunk is sectioned.

Honey locust is lighter work, but the old wild types carry long thorns on the trunk and limbs, which changes how the crew handles the brush. Either way, the wood is cut to a length you can handle and stacked where you want it, or hauled away.

Groveport Street Trees and Storm Cleanup

Before anything on the street side is quoted, check whose tree it is. The strip between the sidewalk and the road, and a tree standing in it, usually belongs to the City of Groveport rather than the house. Make sure the tree is yours before anyone quotes on it.

Storms bring the most urgent calls. On August 11, 2026, the National Weather Service measured an 82 mph gust at John Glenn Columbus International Airport, and big silver maples are often the first trees to lose a limb in wind like that. If a tree is on your house, call 614-701-0806. We are close by. See storm damage tree removal.

What Tree Removal in Groveport Costs

A mature oak or maple is priced by what stands under it and how we reach it: the height and spread, whether pieces can drop into open lawn or have to be lowered over a roof, how heavy the wood is, and how much cleanup you want. The price is written before we start, and the estimate is free. For how pricing works, see what tree removal costs. Nearby, we also do tree removal in Canal Winchester, Columbus and Lithopolis.

Frequently asked questions

My pin oak has dead lower branches. Is it dying?

Probably not. Pin oaks keep their dead lower limbs for years. Those limbs should be cleared over drives and walks, but on their own they are not a reason to remove the tree.

The crown of my oak is turning yellow. Does it need to come down?

Yellowing in a pin oak on alkaline soil is often chlorosis, a soil problem rather than a dying tree. We look at it on the free visit and tell you plainly what it is.

My silver maple keeps dropping limbs. Is that normal?

Some shedding is normal for silver maple. A crack at a main fork, decay at the base, or limbs failing over the house are not, and those are the signs that point to removal.

How far is Groveport for you?

It is one of our shortest drives from Reynoldsburg, so there is no minimum job. You pick the window, and we keep it.

Do you work on the big trees in the old part of town?

Yes. The streets around the Groveport Town Hall Historic Group, listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978, carry some of the oldest trees in town, and those are the careful, sectioned removals we plan for.

Is stump grinding part of the removal?

It is quoted as a separate line at the same visit. See stump grinding.
