Tree Removal Across Westerville, OH

Westerville sits on the north side of the Columbus metro, with Alum Creek running through it and Otterbein University near its center. It is one of the longer drives from our base in Reynoldsburg, so we plan Westerville removals ahead and fit the whole job into one day. Much of the city was built in the 1970s and 1980s: 44 percent of its homes went up in those two decades, which means a lot of yard trees planted with those houses are now forty or fifty years old. For pruning and the rest of what we do in town, see tree service in Westerville, and the service areas page lists the other towns.

Tree Removal Reviews From A.S.H. Customers

A tree removal is done on your property, close to your house, by people you have only just met. Trust is the whole job. What A.S.H. customers write about comes back to the same three things: the crew turned up when it said it would, did the work that was agreed, and left the yard clean. Those are the things to look for in any review before you book tree removal in Westerville, ours included.

Eduardo was fantastic to work with. Quick to schedule and helpful by listening to what my goals and concerns were. I had a smaller project so he was able to squeeze me in the very next day after providing an estimate. Quality work that was reasonably priced.

The work crew knew what I wanted them to do. They showed up on time and started to work, checking with me to make sure that everything was done to my satisfaction. They did a great job with cleanup. Eduardo was a pleasant person and professional with his job.

I had reached out to get a quote after our Black Walnut Tree had some large branches break off in high winds. Ed made some recommendations and talked me through what branches he would remove. His team showed up on time and did a great job! Not only do our trees look great and healthy, but his team did a great job cleaning up the yard after.

Big Old Trees Around Uptown Westerville

The older streets around Uptown, near the Westerville Public Library and the Otterbein campus, carry oaks, maples and sycamores that are older than many of the houses beside them. Trees that size grow long, heavy limbs over roofs and driveways, and when one of them has to come down, it comes down in sections.

A climber or the bucket takes the crown off first, limb by limb, each piece lowered on rope into the space we cleared for it. Then the trunk comes down in rounds short enough to handle. Nothing is dropped where it could bounce into a porch, a fence or a car. For how that kind of takedown runs, see tree removal.

Westerville Tree Lawn Trees and the Shade Tree Commission

In Westerville, the Shade Tree Commission controls the planting and removal of trees in the tree lawn, the strip between the sidewalk and the street. Permits for tree lawn work come from the Westerville Parks and Recreation Department at 350 N. Cleveland Avenue.

Trees on your own lot are yours to decide about, and those are the ones we take down. If the tree you are worried about stands in the tree lawn, start with the city. We will tell you at the estimate which side of the line a tree is on, before anything is priced.

Storm damage across a residential street, limbs down over the road and the tree lawn: tree removal by A.S.H. Tree Service, serving Westerville, OH

Creek Lots Along Alum Creek

Lots that back onto Alum Creek or its side channels have their own problems. Soil near water stays wet, roots run shallow, and trees there tend to lean toward the open light over the creek. A leaning tree near a bank is worth a look before a wet spring, because soaked soil lets roots slip, and a tree that has stood for decades can go over in one storm.

Bank trees are also hard to reach. The truck stays on firm ground, the climber does the work, and pieces are lowered away from the water and carried up. Sometimes the right answer is to take only the part of the tree leaning over the house and leave the rest standing to hold the bank. We will tell you which.

Storm Damage and Emergency Tree Removal in Westerville

Severe storms come through central Ohio most summers. The June 29, 2012 derecho brought a 71 mph gust to Columbus and gusts of 70 to 80 mph across the area, and on August 11, 2026, the National Weather Service measured an 82 mph gust at John Glenn Columbus International Airport. After storms like those, the calls are about trees on roofs, cars and fences.

If a tree is on your house, call rather than use the form. Phone is the fastest way to reach us, and we will give you an honest arrival time. See storm damage tree removal for how we take apart a tree that has already failed, and emergency tree service for urgent calls.

What Tree Removal in Westerville Costs

The price of a tree removal in Westerville comes from the tree and what is around it: how tall and wide it is, whether it can be lowered into open lawn or has to come down piece by piece over a roof, how close it is to the creek or the house, and how much cleanup you want. We give a written price after a look, and the estimate is free. Stump grinding is quoted as a separate line at the same visit. For how pricing works, see what tree removal costs.

Frequently asked questions

Who decides about the tree between my sidewalk and the street in Westerville?

The city. The Shade Tree Commission controls planting and removal in the tree lawn, and permits come from Westerville Parks and Recreation.

Westerville is a long way from Reynoldsburg. Will you come?

Yes. We plan Westerville visits ahead and fit the job into one day. You still pick the day and the window, and we keep it.

My old oak drops dead branches every summer. Does it need to come down?

Not always. Dead branches in a big oak are often deadwood that pruning can clear. A dead top, a crack through a main fork or decay at the base are different, and we will tell you which you have.

Can you take down a tree that hangs over my roof?

Yes. Limbs over a roof are cut and lowered on rope, one at a time, so nothing lands on the shingles or the gutters.

Is stump grinding part of the removal?

It is quoted separately at the same visit, since some people keep the stump. See stump grinding.

Are there other things you do in Westerville?

Yes: pruning, cabling, storm cleanup and stump grinding across the city, including the newer neighborhoods in the Westerville City School District. See tree service in Westerville.
