Tree service in Westerville, Ohio

Westerville is on the north side of the metro, a longer drive from our base in Reynoldsburg, so we plan visits here ahead of time. The streets around Uptown and Otterbein University carry a big, mature canopy, and the neighborhoods farther out have younger trees that need shaping. You pick the time. We show up.

Mature trees around Uptown

The older streets near Uptown Westerville and the Otterbein campus have large oaks, maples and sycamores, many older than the houses beside them. Big old trees like these tend to carry deadwood high in the crown and long, heavy limbs over roofs and driveways. Pruning every few years also makes it easier to spot problems early.

That is pruning work far more often than removal. We clear the deadwood, shorten the heavy limbs back to sound branches, and lift the crown off the house. When a limb has a weak attachment but the tree is worth keeping, cabling is an option.

Alum Creek and the newer neighborhoods

Alum Creek runs through the city, and lots along it deal with wet soil, leaning trees and storm debris. Farther out, subdivisions built over the last few decades have trees that are just reaching the size where a weak fork starts to matter. A leaning tree near the creek bank is worth a look before a wet spring, because soaked soil lets roots slip. Younger subdivision trees, on the other hand, usually need only a few well-placed cuts to grow a strong single trunk.

If a storm has already split something, storm damage removal takes it down safely. For the cost side of any removal, see what tree removal costs.

Questions

What Westerville callers ask us

Who decides about the tree between my sidewalk and the street in Westerville?

The Shade Tree Commission controls planting and removal of tree lawn trees, and permits come from the Parks and Recreation Department at 350 N. Cleveland Avenue. Trees on your side of the sidewalk are yours to manage. If you are not sure where your line runs, we can help you work it out on the free visit.

Westerville is a long way from Reynoldsburg. Will you come?

Yes. It is one of our longer drives, so we book Westerville visits ahead of time. The time slot you choose when you book still holds. If you have several trees to look at, grouping them into one planned visit makes the trip work better for both of us.

My old oak drops dead branches every summer. Is it dying?

Not necessarily. Big old oaks shed deadwood as they age, and clearing it is routine pruning. Dieback across the whole crown, fungus at the base or a hollow trunk is a different story, and we will tell you which you have.

Can you trim a tree that hangs over my roof without climbing on the roof?

Yes. We work from the bucket or from inside the tree, and limbs over the roof are cut small and lowered on rope so nothing lands on the shingles. Gutters and shingles under the work are protected before the first cut, and we clean the roof of any small debris before we leave.
