Tree service in Grove City, Ohio

Grove City is on the southwest side of Columbus, the far side of the metro from our base in Reynoldsburg, so we book visits here ahead. Most of it is subdivisions built over the last few decades, where the trees are finally big enough to cause trouble. You pick the time. We show up.

Subdivision trees coming of age

Grove City grew fast, and a lot of its neighborhoods were planted with the same few fast-growing trees at the same time. Ornamental pears, silver maples and similar trees look fine for fifteen years and then start to split at a narrow fork, often in the first strong storm after they reach full size.

Catching a weak fork early is a small pruning job. Waiting turns it into a removal and a cleanup. See trimming and pruning for how we shape a young tree, and storm damage removal for what happens when it splits.

Grove City's Urban Forestry Division looks after approximately 12,000 public trees. (City of Grove City, Urban Forestry)

The older town center

Around the town center, older homes carry bigger, older trees, closer to roofs and to each other. Those are the jobs that need rope work, a climber and a careful plan for where each piece lands. For anything that has to come down, see tree removal, and for a price picture, what tree removal costs. Old trees near the center also tend to have decay behind old pruning wounds, which we check before trusting a limb with rigging. When the wood is sound, a well-planned reduction can often keep a tree that looked like a removal at first glance.

Right-of-way trees in Grove City

Grove City's Urban Forestry Division is responsible for the city's public trees, including the planting, maintenance and removal of all trees in the city right-of-way. If a tree stands in the right-of-way along your street, that is the city's to handle. Trees on your own lot are yours, and those are the ones we look at. (City of Grove City, Urban Forestry)

Questions

What Grove City callers ask us

Who takes care of the tree along the street in front of my Grove City house?

Grove City's Urban Forestry Division handles the planting, maintenance and removal of trees in the city right-of-way. If the tree is on your own lot, it is yours to manage, and we can help with it. If you are not sure where the right-of-way ends, the city can tell you, and we can help you read it on the free visit.

Grove City is across town from you. Is that a problem?

No. It is one of our longer drives from Reynoldsburg, so we plan Grove City visits ahead of time, and the window you pick still holds. If you have several trees or stumps to deal with, grouping them into one planned visit makes the long drive work in your favor.

My pear tree split in half. Can it be saved?

Usually not once the main fork has split. The remaining half is weak at the same point. It is typically safer to remove the tree and replant with a species that holds its structure better. We can grind the stump on the same visit so the spot is ready to replant.

Can you grind the old stumps while you are here?

Yes. Grinding a few stumps on the same visit as a removal is simpler than a second trip. Ask when you book and we will include it in the written price. Chips can be left to fill the hole or hauled away, whichever you prefer.
